Privacy Policy & Cookies
Last updated: January 14, 2026
1. Introduction
InkLocal ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our digital sketchbook application. We believe in transparency and want you to understand exactly how your data is processed.
InkLocal is designed as a local-first application, meaning your creative work and personal data remain on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit your artwork to any external servers.
2. Local-First Data Storage
InkLocal operates on a local-first architecture. All your artwork, sketches, and creative content are stored exclusively on your device using the following browser technologies:
- IndexedDB: A browser database that stores your canvas elements, metadata, and project information locally.
- Origin Private File System (OPFS): A private file system for storing large binary assets like images and media files dropped onto your canvas.
- Local Storage: Used for application preferences and settings.
Zero Server Storage: We do not have servers that receive, process, or store your creative work. Your artwork never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it.
3. Data We Collect
Because InkLocal is a local-first application, we collect minimal data:
- Application Usage Data: We may collect anonymous usage statistics to improve application performance and user experience. This data does not include your artwork or personal content.
- Error Logs: In the event of application errors, we may collect anonymized error reports to diagnose and fix issues.
- Device Information: Basic device information (browser type, screen resolution) may be used to optimize the application for your device.
We Do Not Collect: Your artwork, sketches, creative content, personal files, or any data stored in your local databases.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
InkLocal uses cookies and browser storage technologies for the following purposes:
- Essential Cookies: Required for the application to function properly, including maintaining your session and preferences.
- Performance Cookies: Used to analyze application performance and optimize user experience.
- Local Storage: Stores application settings, preferences, and state information on your device.
You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. However, disabling essential cookies may prevent the application from functioning correctly.
5. Data Ownership and Control
You Own Your Data: All artwork, sketches, and creative content created in InkLocal belongs exclusively to you. Because data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over:
- Accessing your artwork at any time
- Exporting your work to various file formats
- Deleting your data from your device
- Backing up your data to external storage
Data Retention: Your data remains on your device until you choose to delete it. We do not have access to your local data and cannot delete it remotely.
6. Third-Party Services
InkLocal may integrate with third-party services for specific functionality:
- Cloudflare Pages: Used for hosting the application. Cloudflare may collect basic analytics data as part of their hosting service.
- GitHub: Used for source code hosting and version control.
These third-party services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies to understand how they handle data.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your data:
- Local Storage Security: Browser storage technologies (IndexedDB, OPFS) are protected by browser security mechanisms.
- HTTPS Encryption: All data transmitted between your browser and our hosting provider is encrypted using HTTPS.
- No Remote Access: Because data is stored locally, there is no remote access point for potential attackers.
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but strive to use industry-standard practices.
8. Children's Privacy
InkLocal is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will delete such information.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
